I must confess, I used to be a Libra.
Astrology makes the claim that your moment of birth determines your life path. This involves looking at where the visible planets are located in the sky at that time. The constellation(s) that certain planets appear to be in are said to determine your fate. This is where your sign comes from. Traditionally, there are 12 signs of the zodiac: Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, and Sagittarius.
I used to be a Libra. Based on my October birth date, my sign was Libra. Libras are supposed to be Charismatic, Gentle, Good-looking, Kind, Stylish, Romantic, Easygoing, and Intuitive. But could it be that I'm not anymore? Sadly, the answer is yes!
It is an established scientific fact that while the earth orbits the sun, the earth's axis wobbles a bit and the size and shape of the orbit varies slightly due to interactions with other celestial bodies. So over the centuries since most astrological charts were created, the stars have moved relative to our perspective here on earth. This is really not news. Astronomers have know this for quite a while. However, recently, this made the news headlines as they publicly stated that not only were the signs and dates messed up, but that there is now another sign of the zodiac, Ophiuchus, making a total of 13. It lies between Scorpio and Sagittarius. The end result is that your sign is no longer your sign!
So, according to the new charts, I am no longer a Libra. It seems that the stars have now conspired to turn me into a Virgo. I don't even know how to act or behave at this point, since I know nothing about Virgos. Oh well.
Seriously, I've never understood how the gravitational effects of the planets at the time of my birth could have any effect on me. The mass of the doctor who delivered me had more effect than all the planets put together. (Thanks Hugh Ross for pointing that out). At best astrology seems to be no better than cold readings that magicians have done for centuries (Criss Angel did a great expose of this). At worst, it may lead the way into the world of the occult. Either way, it seems foolish to base life decisions on their pronouncements.
My birth sign used to be Libra. But my sign of choice is the FISH, <ΙΧΘΥΣ><
